Treating Scoliosis
Scoliosis is the progressive, abnormal curvature of the spine. Usually detected when ones bones are still growing, it can lead to arthritis, pulmonary problems, coronary complications and even neurological problems if left untreated. Severe scoliosis compromises one's appearance, height, self-esteem and ability to function normally.
Scoliosis is believed to be a genetic disorder that occurs in females more often than males by a seven to one ratio. Additionally, scoliosis can be triggered by birth trauma and childhood injuries. 70-80% of the time, the cause can not be identified and the scoliosis is then considered idiopathic.
All children should be screened for scoliosis either at school or by an independent care provider. Signs of scoliosis include uneven shoulder height and/or unusual or changes posture.

Unfortunately in most cases, the medical management technique employed is to wait and see if it gets worse., at which point, braces or surgery are often required. A chiropractor sets the goal of screening, discovering and treating scoliosis, while a person is young. With early treatment, scoliosis can be slowed and sometimes even stopped, pro-actively avoiding the need for more evasive treatments.
